Old Union School, established in 1996, is a private school operated under the authority of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
 
OUR FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION:

Ms. Sara Beth Spurgeon
Preschool teacher

Elementary Art, Bible, and Penmanship teacher

Ms. Sara Beth Spurgeon, a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, is an honors graduate of Franklin Simpson High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University. Prior to teaching at OUS, she spent three years working with young children at Greentree Childcare in Franklin. The 2007-2008 school year will mark her fourth year at Old Union School. She is a caring and compassionate teacher with lots of enthusiasm.

Mrs. Laura Rector
Kindergarten teacher
Elementary Reading teacher

Mrs. Laura Beth Rector, a member of and also youth director at Beech Grove General Baptist Church in Scottsville, earned her BA in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University.  In addition, she recently completed her Master’s Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University.  Mrs. Rector has over five years teaching experience in the elementary grades, both in Warren and Allen counties.  Regarding her second year OUS, Mrs. Rector explained that she is “… very excited about being part of such a great school.”

Mrs. Margie Pierce
Core Teacher grades 1-3

Mrs. Margie Pierce, a member of Grace Baptist Church, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Bob Jones University. Before coming to OUS, she taught in other elementary/middle schools for 12 years; in addition, Mrs. Pierce was a Head Start teacher for three years. The 2007-2008 school year marks Mrs. Pierce's seventh at Old Union School.  She explains, "I love teaching the students at Old Union and want to see them strive to do their best and be the best that they can be."


Mrs. Jennifer Glass
6th/7th Math, 6th Grammar, Spelling & History

and 7th English teacher 

 

Mrs. Jennifer Glass, a member of Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, earned her degree in Education from Western Kentucky University.  In addition, she has been honored as an educator in the publication Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.  2007-2008 will mark the eighth year at OUS for “Mrs. G” (as she is lovingly referred to by her students.)  


Mrs. Leslie Witty, Principal
Creative Drama teacher
English 9/10 teacher

Mrs. Witty received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Allied Language Arts and her Masters Degree in Communication from Western Kentucky University. The 2007-2008 school year will be her sixth year at OUS and her fifth year as its Principal.  Prior to teaching at Old Union, Mrs. Witty taught high school for four years in the Warren County school system, earning the distinction of Warren County's "Outstanding Young Educator" in the high school division. She has previously taught Communication classes at Western Kentucky University and is still retained there as a Corporate Trainer in Communication. Mrs. Witty is a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church

Mrs. Ashley Murphy, Assistant Principal
Music, 6th-10th Science, Keyboarding, Bible Journal 

Mrs. Murphy, a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Western Kentucky University in 2003, where she also majored in Religious Studies. The 2007-2008 school year marks Mrs. Murphy's fifth year as a teacher at OUS and her second as Assistant Principal. In addition to her teaching at Old Union, Mrs. Murphy also teaches physics and astronomy through Western Kentucky University's "Super Saturday" program for gifted students. Over the summer, she has also been an astronomy teaching fellow with the Governor's Scholar Program at Bellarmine University.

Mr. Derek Anderson
9th & 10th grade Math teacher

Mr. Anderson received his Bachelor's Degree from Western Kentucky University, majoring in Accounting with minors in Business Administration and Economics. He previously worked at Bowling Green High for four years and taught accounting classes at Bowling Green Community Technical College. The 2007-2008 school year will be Mr. Anderson’s third year at Old Union School.

Mr. David Witty
Upper grades Bible teacher

Mr. Witty received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Kentucky University, majoring in Computer Information Systems. He worked for over eight years in the mortgage industry and continues to work in the field of real estate as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker.  Mr. Witty, a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church, has taught Sunday school there for over nine years; in addition, he is their current Sunday School Superintendent.  Mr. Witty announced his call to preach in July 2004.

Elder Stephen Skinner
Chairman of the Board

With over thirty years in the field of education, Elder Stephen Skinner brings a wealth of experience to the Old Union School Board. Having degrees from Southwest Missouri State and the University of Missouri, he worked in Missouri as a middle school math teacher for 13 years, a middle school assistant principal for 5 years, and a middle school principal for 12. He has also pastored churches in Missouri, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Elder Skinner has been a member and the pastor at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church since 2001.

Dr. Clifford Hayes
Board Member

Dr. Hayes, a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, recently retired from a successful forty year dental practice. He has been attending Old Union Missionary Baptist church for over fifty years and has been an ordained deacon there since 1970. He has taught several classes at Old Union School in the areas of history, science, and "The Life of Jesus." Interestingly, Dr. Hayes and his wife Martha Jo reside on land that once housed the original Old Union School (1900s-1940s.)

Mr. Dewey Glasscock
Board Member

Mr. Glasscock, a Western Kentucky University graduate, retired in 2001 from U.S. Bank after 40 years of service. A consistent supporter of Old Union School, Mr. Glasscock was elected onto its board in 2005. He has been a member at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years and an ordained deacon there since 1990.

Mr. David Carter
School Treasurer

Mr. Carter graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2003 with a B.S. Degree in Computer Information Systems. In addition to being Old Union School's Treasurer, he is employed as an Inventory Specialist at SCA Personal Care in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Mr. Carter and his wife Megan (who manages our website) are both members at Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Megan Carter
Website Administrator

 

Mrs. Carter is a 2004 graduate of Old Union School and 2008 graduate of Western Kentucky University. She stays busy as a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mom and is a very active member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter supports the school and is happy to help in any way she can.
